About Me!

Greetings.  My name is Colin P. McKaig and this is my twenty-fifth year as an English teacher here at Black River High School.  I am originally from Maryland and fell in love with New England as a young person coming north to visit my grandparents when they retired to the White Mountains.  When it came time to attend college, I landed at Keene State and it was a great fit.  I was a walk-on athlete on the swimming and diving team, reaching All New England as a senior.  I graduated in 1985 with a BA in English Literature.

I taught English in Maryland for two years before returning to UMass Amherst to take a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.  In 1993 I found a small ad in the Boston Globe for an English teacher in Ludlow, Vermont and I've been here ever since.  I love the outdoors, especially skiing and mountain biking.  I served as coach of the varsity golf team for 11 years, and varsity ski team for 9 years.

One goal of mine was to finish hiking all 48 of  New Hampshire's 4000' mountains.  The photo above was taken this summer on the summit of Middle Carter on the Wildcat-Carter-Moriah range.  It was an amazing day and I was really excited to accomplish this, something I've been chipping away at for quite awhile.
