On Monday Colin McKaig invited me to join his 11th grade American Literature class on a trip to the Ludlow Town Offices. Colin and his students had read the Spoon River Anthology, by Edgar Lee Masters and they were now working on writing their own Black River Anthology. The students had adopted a Ludlow resident from mid nineteenth century to research and write about. They started their work in the local cemetery and then moved to the Town Offices to look at birth, death, marriage and land records. In the end the students will develop a free verse poem for each of their people.
