SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID

*Beginning October 1 families can file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA):  www.fafsa.ed.gov*


1. Horatio Alger Vermont Scholarship
Awards range from $6,000-$25,000
Who: Students with critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income)
Deadline: October 25, 2017

2. Voice of Democracy
Prizes and scholarships are awarded at Post, District, State, and National levels by the VFW. State winners receive an all-expense trip to Washington, DC and $154,000 in national awards.
Who: 9th-12th grade students
Deadline: October 31, 2017

-Applicants must submit an original 3-5 minute essay on an audio CD or flash drive based on this year's patriotic theme "American History: Our Hope for the Future".

3. 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Award
State awards of $1,000 and national awards of $5,000
Who: Students who have participated in community service activities
Deadline: November 17, 2017

4. Cumberland Farms Believe & Achieve Scholarship
Awards of $1,000
Who: Seniors who plan to enroll full-time to a 2-year or 4-year college or university.
Qualifications: GPA of 3.0, demonstrate financial need
Deadline: December 4, 2017

5. 2018 GE Reagan Foundation Scholarship
Awards of $10,000 renewable, up to $40,000 total
Who: Students who demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, & citizenship and plan on attending a 4-year college or university
Qualifications: GPA of 3.0
Deadline: January 4, 2018

6. National Co-op Scholarship
Awards between ten to thirty $6,000 scholarships renewable for up to $24,000-$26,000 per College/University criteria
Who: Students applying to Clarkson Univ, Drexel Univ, Merrimack College, RIT, NYU Oswego, Univ of Cincinnati, UMASS Lowell, Univ of Toldeo, or Wentworth Inst. of Tech
Qualifications: GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale
Deadline: February 15, 2018 *with earlier deadlines for Clarkson, Drexel, Merrimack, & UMASS Lowell

-No transcripts or letters of recommendation required (please do not send)

7. The American Legion of Vermont Scholarships
Offering (1) Department of Vermont Scholarship for $1,500, (1) Department Commander's Scholarship for $1,000, & (10) $500 Scholarships
Who: Any high school senior
Deadline: April 1, 2018

8. The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship
Renewable four-year scholarships; $211,900 went to 31 Vermont students for the 2017-18 academic year
Who: Students from New England with financial need who are seeking a bachelor's degree at a 4-year college in the US
*Successful candidates are those who display academic achievement, service to others, good character, leadership qualities, and a willingness to work to contribute to college, personal, and/or family expenses. We also value demonstrated grit and resiliency in students who have faced significant challenges.
Qualifications: GPA of 3.0 or higher, financial need: check the financial eligibility calculator on the website to see if you qualify
Deadline: May 1, 2018 or the early response option by April 3, 2018
-Includes a formal essay and short written responses
-Requires a resume
-2 recommendations are required, but more are welcome
